Latest spring.... Ever

Postby cut_un » Thu May 05, 2016 9:24 am

In all my years of chasing thunder.. Been the wildest I have ever seen! Usually by now, our birds are on the move looking for hens! If you strike a bird on the roost, good chance he will run slam over you! This year, with two weeks left, we are into our all day hunting season, birds are still following hens around all day! Most birds will sit a limb and fly down to hens at flydown! Will continue to be dragged around all day and not give a single thought to the unseen hen! Best to simply pattern their movements and set up where they generally are going.. Much like evening hunting! Here in central Va... Many hens and rainy damp weather has had a real effect on our birds ! Been crazy and have really had to change up to have a turkey for dinner!

My dad was able to get out today. Spent most of the morning in a blind to avoid the rain and heard a couple of hen yelps and that was it. He moved to another plot and thought he may have heard a distant gobble but nothing ever responded. Weather is looking better for tomorrow. Good luck guys.

I'm done as the wife and I doubled on a pair of Jakes this morning! Would have passed them up but has been on our bucket list!
