Chufa

Has anyone ever tried a chufa plot. I have two plots each about a 1/4 acre, and have nothing using them (except coons and mice). I know there are turkeys there, and I have made it readily available.

I've heard the turkeys love it but I've never tried it.

Sorry, my post was about as clear as mud. I have tried it, I have two plots of chufa planted and nothing is eating it. I will say it is tasty. Kinda like a dirty almond. But no turkeys.

Was there a good acorn crop? Turkeys and deer will pass just about everything up for acorns.

Did you disk some of it up for them to find it?? Just make a few passes around the outside edge or outside edge and a run down the middle. This will get some of them up on top of the ground and the animals will take care of the rest.

I went through both fields with a pitchfork and turned up a lot of seeds and thought they would find them, but most are still there. Maybe it was the acorns, they are plentiful.

My buddy plants it in GA. Turkey love it. Usually planted in open fields next to clover food plots.

Also works in upstate NY but only if the turkeys can not find soybeans or acorns.
