How far do you practice?

Postby Timberghost » Sat Jun 08, 2013 8:14 am

Lets hear it, lately I've been shooting out to 80, which is as far as I can get on my yard, and it makes everything closer a breeze. How far do you guys shoot?
Team I wish we had a contest this year!

You just have to add a little bit of air beneath your pin lol.

Would never try a shot over 40 anyway. To much chance for movement at the sound of the string. Respect the animal to much.

What is this the Robin Hood forum? You guys are real shooters! I practice mostly at twenty yards. I keep all my shots less than 25 yards. I like to be real close to my prey when I shoot because so much can go wrong with long shots. I agree those 50 - 60 yard practice shots make the closer shots seem easy. I do OK though, 13 deer bow kills the last four years. Got to love Iowa where there's a P&Y buck behind every tree. :rof: :rof: I saw it on TV.

I have a different answer for how far I shoot when bow hunting, but that wasn't asked. It was asked, how far we practice. 60yds is my answer.

I practice to 70. My bow carries a lot of kinetic energy but not enough speed for the distance. Meaning it would kill at that range but I wouldn't be comfortable shooting at that range in fear the animal might move.

But my bow is old by today's bow's standards......

As for recurve, nothing past 20.
