Striker prep?

Postby cut_un » Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:13 am

Wondering what is done to prep the business end of the wooden strickers? So many different woods available, shapes& sizes, some pretty basic, some "real pretty"... some sound better than others for sure

I use 80-100 grit sand paper and twist into the paper like starting a fire.. This method insures that the sanding does not alter the angle of the striker tip.. After doing so, I make one quick pass across a green scrubby to get remnants of the sand off..

Alot of guys use a scrubby to condition there striker, but all it does really is clean and polish the striker tip thus reducing friction.

I burnish all of the strikers I make on a piece of glass.

Burnishing is an easy process. Lay a piece of glass flat on a table. Then hold your striker and rub vigorously back and forth over th glass with a lot of pressure bearing down on the glass. You will see a glaze on the striker and that is when you know you have it done.
Glad you liked the call.
