Upright and Jake

Postby JP_hntnfsh » Mon Apr 15, 2013 12:43 pm

I have an upright hen and a Jake decoy...what type of set up would you recommend for these three scenario's?

1.) In a blind in a wide open field...

2.) Edge of a field either in or out of a blind...

3.) Woods

I usually set up my decoys close but what I am wondering is more the positioning of the these two together. My thoughts gravitated towards the hen angled and the Jake a couple feet behind her looking straight at me.

My opinion would be to set the hen about 15-20 yards out, then set the jake about 10 yards behind hen, same distance from you as the hen. Would not matter if I were hunting open woods or fields. I'e hope to kill the turkey standing /walking around the Jake.

Would not matter where the hen was facing, but I'd have the jake looking at her.

what has worked well for me is to put a jake decoy a few feet behind the hen.

I like the hen low with the jake mounting her. Works better with aq feeding hen though.
Shoot em in the face!!
