Best Pose for a full body mount

Postby Mike J. » Mon Dec 26, 2011 4:55 pm

Just curious as to what everyone thinks for the best pose on a full body Tom would be. Full Strut / Gobbling / Flying / other?.

I personally like the full strut as it was probably the pose right before his snood recieved a load of #5's.

I have to agree with strutting. You have to show off all the colors of the bird.

met a guy has has a big trophy room that has a bare cedar tree going from floor to ceiling. The has several gobblers perched sleeping, standing ,some in strut, really cool looking. He also has quail, pheasant and grouse in the tree too.

I like the flying turkey hanging on the wall best...struttings cool too . I remember the turkeys of yesteryear, those heads just did not look natural, the heads of today look so real!

The coolest one I ever saw was a fighting pose. I'll have to find it and post it. If I do a full body mount it will be like that.

Started out thinking to do just the back feathers and wings but once I got the bird skinned out and saw the whole cape laid out decided to just go with the whole bird.

Skinned the bird, used borax to dry out the skin after getting all the fat off I could. For the wings, had to get the meat off the bone, this was the longest and toughest part. Used a razor blade to dig in around the wingbones. after gettin all of it out I could, filled the holes full of borax and let it set for a couple of days to dry.

Went to a fabric shop and got some felt for the backing. Spot sewed the felt to the skin and hung it up. Took probably 4 hours total to finish.
