shot size for turkeys

Postby ksfowler166 » Tue Feb 19, 2013 4:59 pm

This could go bad very fast, especially for me. So keep the ksfowler bashing to a minimun. I am just trying to broaden peoples few and introduce them to a new way of thinking. Here are some posts from Charles Hammack inventor of the downrange 16ga wad. He favors small shot for all game including turkeys. He normally uses #7 1/2 to #9 lead at 1400 + fps. But has used #12 lead before with success. I would encourage people to read these threads they contain some good information. http://www.16ga.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... ght=turkey

Shooting #7 15g/cc shot I see no need for any other size.. Wait, if they made 8s I would switch to them.. The whole velocity thing is trumped by the density of the pellet..

I agree. I use #5 hevi and am going to pattern magnum blend this year out of my new versa max to see how I like that. I always use Hevi loads for turkeys. Seems I can justify the price since I shoot one or two rounds a year.

I prefer #5 shot, because it seems to pattern best out of my gun.

I like my #4 and #5 wether I'm shooting 3 inch or 2 3/4. Just what I have always used.
