Anyone use an O/U?

Postby therhino » Mon Mar 05, 2012 12:02 pm

When I was first picking out the shotgun I wanted to buy, I was trying to decide between a pump and an over/under. I ended up with a Mossberg 500 in 20ga, so the question is pretty much moot now, but does anyone use an O/U for turkey?
I'd really fallen in love with the look and feel of the Stoeger Condor Outback. 20" barrel, chokable, and felt great in hand. But, it was an over/under, and I let the salesman talk me out of it due to felt recoil in O/U shotguns, and concerns about 20" being too short for reliable hunting.

Did I give up too quickly, or is an O/U pretty much only for clays and upland work?

I do not but it is a growing trend.. With selectable barrels have one barrel tricked out with a tight choke and good loads and the other with a IMP cyl and some lead 7.5s it would be a heckuva gun.

I'm going to be shooting one for geese this year. And if I like it I'm gonna try and pick up a higher end one. Maybe something along the lines of the Browning Cynergy in MODB.

I looked at a Savage 22/20 when I was browsing for my shotgun. Someone had sprayed the whole thing in a thick layer of black spraypaint and self-blueing. It was a total wreck, and I was advised that it would be pretty much beyond reclamation for anyone but a gunsmith. Such a shame, because it was a beauty of a weapon.

I've always said that an o/u would be the "perfect" turkey gun
one barrel choked tight for25-45yd shots and the other choked for the 10-25yd shots
it's not the harvest....it's the chase

I have a friend that has one of the HandK Fab arm 12 g 3.5 with the tribore barrel we were going to mess with this year for turkey.. He ended up getting a 870 for 75 bucks so we are tricking that out instead. He might sell the HandK
